A Turn Down Treat - Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

image

Each evening, MoDA’s Butlers visit guestrooms to refresh and ready for nightfall.

Refreshing spring water, along with a sweet treat, are placed bedside for guests.

Many of the sweet treats are made in-house by MoDA’s Chefs and include such offerings as caramel popcorn, chocolate biscotti, chocolate nut clusters, chocolate dipped toffee, chocolate and nut bark, as well as a wide variety of freshly baked cookies.

A guest recently emailed this request to The Butler Team:

“Hi there…we checked out earlier today and can’t stop thinking about the peanut butter cookies…we want to make some now :)  Can you share the recipe? Thanks so much.”

We forwarded a recipe and thought we’d share with you as well…

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chunky or smooth peanut butter (per your taste)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • handful of Reeses peanut butter cups - crumbled or cut into small pieces onto a separate shallow plate

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder; set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, beat peanut butter, sugar, and butter until smooth. Beat in egg. Gradually add flour mixture, beating to combine.  Mix in peanut butter chips.

  3. Scoop dough by the teaspoonful; roll into balls.  Dip top of ball into crumbled Reeses peanut butter cups.  Place 1 inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets.

  4. Bake cookies, rotating halfway through, until lightly golden, ^10  minutes.  (Not quite sure of the baking time in a home oven - you will have to watch). Cool cookies on a wire rack.
  5. Enjoy….and imagine how much better they would taste if served to you by a MoDA Butler!

girlfriends get-away at The Mansion on Delaware Avenue

                                                    image

For 7 years these friends have reunited annually at The Mansion on Delaware Avenue for a much needed girlfriends get-away!  Their lives are busy as doctors, professors, businesswomen, wives and mothers - but on this evening each year they are simply a group of girlfriends who are appreciative for and dedicated to the connections they’ve made with one another.

They each arrive at different times, as their schedules allow, and they’re greeted by the Butlers who take their bags, valet their transportation, and remember and mix their favorite cocktail to take to their rooms as they unpack and refresh.                                                   image

The evening always begins with a sparkling wine toast in the Billiards Salon, where these friends chat and catch up on each other’s lives.  But that’s where the tradition takes a turn…. from year to year this group has asked The Mansion’s Butlers to arrange for everything from dinner and a show to shop and restaurant hopping the Elmwood strip to en suite group manicures and pedicures to cocktails and dancing on Chippewa and then a little detour over to Club Marcella!

These girlfriends always look forward to the ease of MoDA’s complimentary downtown Range Rover transportation and to the silly laughter that usually accompanies these Butler chauffered rides.

                         image

The Mansion’s Butlers make it easy to grab your girlfriends and shop to your  hearts content or dine in Buffalo’s best restaurants or dance your Manolos off…                     Buffalo is the city and The Mansion is the spot!

Presidential History - highbrow or lowbrow?

image

Just steps away, The Mansion on Delaware Avenue's neighbors -The Buffalo Club, the city’s elite private club, and Founding Father’s Pub, where there’s ‘nothing snobby or somber’ - are brimming with architectural & historic significance….and presidential history.

The Buffalo Club was established in 1867, in the midst of a boom-time for the city  as the hub of America’s east-west commerce at the western end of the Erie Canal. Founded by the city’s most influential citizens, it began as ‘a group for the purpose of fostering social intercourse’, and continues today as a private club with the same objective.

The Buffalo Club’s history is replete with presidential history.  13th U.S. President, Millard Fillmore, was not only a founding member but also the club’s first president. Former Buffalo Mayor and 22nd and 24th U.S. President, Grover Cleveland, held term as club president as well.  Perhaps the most significant historic period for The Buffalo Club was the time of the assassination of President William McKinley at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo.   After President McKinley’s assassination, the club was used as headquarters for his cabinet and Vice President Theodore Roosevelt.  Roosevelt’s inauguration would take place in Buffalo at the Wilcox Mansion, now a National Historic Site and museum.  Take a look at President’s who have visited Buffalo, many with a stop at The Buffalo Club.

image

Founding Father’s Pub is not only a quintessential ‘Buffalo locals’ bar where regulars and newcomers alike are warmly greeted and welcome, but also a presidential history buff’s dream. This presidential-themed pub is in a former 19th century livery dating back to 1874, with original hitching posts still nailed to the brick wall.  The decor of this cozy bar pays homage to American history in the form of historic artifacts including portraits of past presidents, newspaper clippings of events and even flags celebrating old election slogans - but it’s the pub’s owner and bartender, Mike Driscoll, who is the real draw.  While giving great service, Mike provides an ‘educational drinking experience’ by sharing his vast knowledge of American history with facts shared and debates begun between pub-goers and bartenders alike.  If you’re lucky, you’ll pop into the pub on a Founding Father’s Quiz Night, with general trivia ‘shout outs’ as well as team play.  Actually, there’s not much ‘lowbrow’ about this Buffalo tradition!

Art at The Mansion - Doug Sargent

"There is a need for public art in the most unexpected places" - Doug Sargent

image

There’s a new sculpture in town, and it’s titled ‘Watchman’.  The Mansion’s Pocket Park within a Parking Lot is graced with a sculpture created specifically for this space by urban artist, Doug Sargent.

Sargent is a metal sculpture artist working primarily with recycled materials: steel, copper, tin, ancient & antique iron, stone, marble, granite, and occasionally antique wood.  While some materials are modern, quite a few date back to the 1800’s and early 1900’s and Sargent feels they seem worthy of ‘a new life in another form’.

image

A few years ago Sargent and fellow artists began to feel that there was a need for public art in the most unexpected places…and they began to do something about it! Sargent’s sculptures have since been installed in several gardens on the Garden Walk Buffalo,  M&T Bank, Quaker Bonnet, and now The Mansion on Delaware Avenue.

Doug’s work is currently for sale at Thin Ice, Market Street Art Center, and Urban Roots.
